East Village Opera Company
This band of opera junkies are coming to the Lyric Opera Of Kansas City.
East Village is like Opera meets Queen, with the lead tenor sounding like Freddie Mercury. This is opera turned into rock. They are all musicians of the best calibre and they do opera. But it's not the standard arrangements. It's rock. Beautiful Rock.
My complaint has been with all of these groups coming out, Il Divo and the like, that there is little true art in these constructs. But East Village is different.
The singers are not your normal park and barkers. THey are as individual as they come. Would they be on the operatic stage? I don't know. Maybe. But this is different.
Yes, it's serious music and it's done with true care and craftsmanship...but it's rock.
They do arias and concert pieces and turn it all around with singing guitars melded with strings and other traditiona instruments.
Plus there's the light show.
If you are into trying something really, really good, but different, this would be an excellent thing to see. As the world of music fluctuates, people are really searching for their souls in how to write and perform in this new century. So as things expand and widen, you should get into the flow and go, because sooner or later we will be back to getting the same thing again and again from multi-billion dollar companies.
Also, if you like seeing cool things this is a rare opportunity for the Lyric to do something this "controversial". Usually it's a company like mine with limited resources who brings in something like this. But there are huge tradeoffs. Here with LOKC you get the whole deal.
and it's 25 dollars. Totally inexpensive considering tickets usually run 40 bucks.
AUGUST 24th at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City 8pm
